Eagle
Experience at The Hoops
Our Golden Eagle experience starts at 10am with a coffee and an
introduction to the birds. This gives you a unique opportunity to really
get close to them and take photos.
You will handle and fly Tawny Eagles and learn all about this magnificent
family of birds of prey before a delicious lunch at The Hoops Inn
Country Hotel.
In the afternoon you will be driven to nearby cliffs to fly the Golden
Eagles over breath taking Devon countryside. The Golden Eagles are huge,
impressive birds and to watch them fly in such a spectacular setting is
truly awesome. This is something that very few people ever get the chance
to do and is an experience that you will remember forever.
We return back to the hotel for afternoon tea at 4pm.
Falconry at The Hoops
We can arrange for our guests to experience falconry with one of the UK's
top professional falconers Jonathan Marshall.
The full day experience starts at 10 am with coffee and an introduction to
the Harris Hawks. You will be taught the correct way to handle and fly
them before being driven to nearby woodland to where you will experience
them in action. Each guest has their own hawk for the morning and will
receive expert tuition from the falconer.
Lunch is at 1pm at the Hoops Inn Country Hotel.
The afternoon is simply breath taking.
Guests are driven to nearby cliffs to fly their own Peregrine Falcon. No
amount of words can prepare you for what you will experience. These
stunning birds will mount to thousands of feet and dive at up to 200mph
right in front of you. You will be left spell bound when you return back
to the Hotel for tea at 4pm.
5 day falconry courses are run throughout the year for people who want to
get their own bird. The course concentrates on the training of a Harris
Hawk which is regarded as the most suitable bird for beginners. Using
Harris Hawks students will be taught the basic training techniques. All
aspects of basic falconry such as manning, hooding, flying weights, basic
equipment, housing, general husbandry, coping and imping, fitting
equipment, falconry knots, creances, lures, slipping, flying free etc are
covered.
Only 4 people at a time are taken so lots of individual attention is given
to each student. There is a written exam on the final day which you must
score over 75% to pass. Successful students will receive a certificate.
It is impossible to teach somebody to be an expert in 5 days, however on
completion you will have gained enough knowledge to get started.
